Born in Paris in 1956, Clement Rosenthal spent his youth in a family environment characterized by a creative and artistic aura; in fact, the father is a composer and musical director, the grandmother a painter who transmits her passion for Asian art (which will become the leitmotif of his works) and finally the grandfather an art historian and Art Nouveau decorator .

From 1973 to 1978 he devoted himself to the study of painting and drawing. He attended the workshops of Parisian art academies where he learned academic drawing from live models. At the same time, he also frequents the studio of a friend, a professional painter, who shows him the basic principles of the various pictorial techniques.

It is from 1979 that he begins to draw his first personal works in which he delights in creating a meeting point between classical and abstract painting, Western and Asian art in order to create real "objects of art", as he defines them . In fact, for Rosenthal the pictorial subject that is abstract or figurative does not have much importance as the subject par excellence is the painting itself. The primary objective is to possess the technique of the great masters of the past, in particular Turner, Monet and Vermeer. From the first two he learns to develop the idea of the subject also as a space, not only as a painting, making the surface around the depicted element stand out much more in his paintings than the element itself. Vermeer's use of the "camera obscura", a technique prior to photography, strikes him. For Rosenthal, painting and photography do not have a clear boundary, he wants his paintings to often resemble a photograph and for the photograph to take on the features of a real painting.

Since 1983 he has worked with various French and international gallery owners and professionals, including the art dealer Jacques Melki, whom he met in 2000 and with whom he collaborated for many years. Participates in several contemporary art fairs: Basel Contemporary Art Fair, FIAC, Miami Art Basel Week, New York Armory Park Avenue, Palm Beach Art Show.

Some of his works have been acquired by the Center d'Art Contemporain Georges Pompidou, the FRAC Ile de France, the FRAC Rhône Alpes, as well as private foundations. Auctions by the auction houses Millon Brussels, Sotheby's New York, Sotheby's London helped establish his worldwide reputation.
